Welcome to Custom Belts by Mike Wallis

Mike Wallis was drawn to Arizona from Central Texas in 1986 for a summer job working on an Arabian horse farm. He fell in love with big sky, crisp smells after a dessert monsoon and the great sunsets of the high dessert broken by the purple mountains. His occupational pursuits reflect his love of the outdoors.

He has worked in forestry, wildlife conservation, wild land fire suppression, environmental remediation and guiding others in their personal outings. He has never enjoyed "riding a desk".

When he is "at work", you might find him wading through a remote trout stream, traversing and ancient petroglyph covered ledge, hiking along a wild game trail or laying under a moonless night counting shooting stars.

His work and play often bring him the opportunity to collect different species of snake which he enjoys making into custom one of kind belts. He has perfected his craft over the last few years to earn him a reputation as a world class artisan. As Mike once said, "No two snakes are alike...so there will never be two belts just alike".

How many people can find something dead lying by the road or trail and see it as a work of art. Right now, Mike is probably lost in the Arizona outback stumbling across the perfect skin, to make that piece of art for you to proudly wear and call your own piece of the American Southwest.

Lynx Creek Edition
This skin was collected near the old gold nugget strewn stream near of the once Capitol of the Arizona Territory. This Western Diamond Back is matched with a fancy, one and half inch brass and chrome buckle set that brings out the soft brown and golden highlights of this belt. Perfect to for that night out on Whiskey Row in Downtown Prescott.

Celtic Twist
This is a one inch California King Snake belt matched with more traditional Celtic style chrome buckle set to compliment the bold contrast of the white on black stripes of the belt making this a unique one of a kind contemporary styled belt.

Arizona Star
This belt is a wonderful example of the complex colorful pattern of the Arizona Gopher Snake. The brown and brass buckle set with golden stars is perfectly subtle to allow the natural beauty of this skin glow on its own. This belt is keenly casual in an elegant way.

Ladies Belt & Hair Pin
Made from a California King Snake collected near Jerome, AZ is traditional western width with a silver and black floral design buckle set complete with a matching hair pin with ponytail clip.

Western Dress Style
Made from an Arizona Gopher Snake (Bull Snake) is a free flow design with a narrow, more contemporary and formal look. The brass backle brings out the skin colors of shades of brown, tan, black and soft reds.

Ranger Style
The traditional Ranger Style is growing in popularity. This belt was made from a Western Diamond Back Rattler and is Mike's personal belt that he wears proudly and often.

Medicine Rifle Style
This belt is the first of the Medicine Rifle Ranch Edition. This belt was made from a large 7' 8" long Arizona Bull snake. This belt, with a lariat style buckle set was custom made for the owner of the famous Medicine Rifle Ranch located in Northern Arizona. All belts in this line have the owners initials branded into the belt!

Casa Grande Style
Made from the Western Diamond Back rattlesnake with a chrome buckle set and matching conchos. Care was taken to show the "coon-tail" black and white tip of the snakes tail.

Wrangler Style
This is a Western Diamond Back Rattler and is 1 inch in width using a simple buckle and natural tip. The black and white portion of the tail was used to make the belt loop topped with an early Texas Ranger style concho for the Texas boy who wears it.

Austin Sophisticate
This unique matching pair that were made from one snake for a father and son. They are 1 inch width with the back of the belt being black to bring out the black portion of the snake. This style is a great way to accessories clothing for a more formal style.

Arizona Native Style
Made from an owners deceased pet gopher snake, the owner wanted to keep it around a little longer. The star concho was added to the belt loop as a personal touch.

Ladies Contemporary Western
This is a contemporary western design. The chrome buckle set brings out the black and white color of the California King Snake. This belt is 3/4" in width, which is great for that petite lady or youngster.
